Experience a unique combination of Lapland, the sea and sheep. Paavonletto Island is a wonderful cultural landscape and a bird paradise where you can get a sea-scented release from the pressures and hustle and bustle of everyday life. You live in a small authentic cottage in the middle of a sheep pasture. You feel how the sea lives. It breathes deep into the silence of a summer night and darkens as the wind rises. It sparkles in the sun, inviting you for boat trip to the archipelago.
WHAT & WHERE?
Paavonletto is an island in the Bay of Bothnia about 800 meters from the mainland. There are only a few similar nationally valuable landscape management areas in Finland. The nearest train station is in Kemi 30km away (by car 25min). Airports in Kemi (35 min) and Oulu (65 min). Nearest bus stop 6 km. With your own car you can reach the nearest beach or sheep farm. The distance between mainland and the island is about 15 minutes by boat.
WHEN & TO WHOM?
Available for the period 19.6.-1.10.2024
Suitable for all shepherds from young to old! You can bring your dog with you, but it must be kept on a leash. A shepherd's holiday in the Bay of Bothnia is perfect for stress-free breakaway, detachment from everyday life and observing birds and plants!
ACCOMMODATION
Two-store log cabin in the middle of a sheep pasture. It can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children or alternatively 3 adults. Downstairs there is a bunkbed, and upstairs loft space for 2-3 people. No electricity or running water. Outhouse. Wood-heated sauna for 2-3 people. A rowing boat available to move between islands and visit the mainland. Cell phone reception and internet is good.

4-6 days 120€ / vrk / 1-2 persons
7 days 600€ / 1-2 persons
Additional persons 50€ / person / day, children under 12 half the price
Booking fee 100€ included. The booking fee will not be returned if the customer cancels less than 7 days before the start of the booking.
Bed linen 20€ / person
Customer handles the final cleaning or cleaning fee 50 €
Drinking water is included in the price
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

You can participate in the farm work, for example taking the sheep to the islands in June-July and bringing them back to the farm in September-October

Nature care work: clearing of willow and collection of twigs and burning them

Picking berries in August, if a good berry year

Fishing. Simojoki, known for its salmon, is also nearby

Birdwatching. There are for example white-tailed eagles in the area
FURRY FRIENDS & DAILY CHORES
Animals: sheep. You can only shepherd the sheep on Paavonletto (40) or, if you wish, also the sheep of other nearby islands. Other animal friends: birds. The islands are part of the Natura 2000 network due to their rich birdlife.
